Step 1 - Preparation


Preparation is key is key as it is where you begin to mentally prep yourself for your new life. If you haven’t made the decision yet that this is a long-term commitment to quitting, start by downloading Easyway to Control Alcohol by Allen Carr. You can begin this audiobook even if you are still drinking.


You’re going to want to set a date to quit. Its usually a good idea to schedule it a week or two out. This will allow you to get some of the other pieces in place before the big day. You’re also going to want to ease off of the booze the last few days. This will make the initial 72 hours of sobriety much more bearable and require less medical supervision. If you drink very heavily and then go cold turkey, it is highly recommended that you do so under medical supervision. This can be done at a detox center. The reason for this as there is a high risk of seizures going from drinking heavily to nothing at all.


For me, if I’ve gone cold turkey after heavy drinking its been bad for the first day or two. Usually after I’ve gone to bed on the first sober night, and consists of feeling extremely cold and shaky. This was eased by eating a bit of food. If you ease off a little, its MUCH easier.

Beginning to eat a super nutritious diet is going to make things a lot easier as well. Beginning in your last couple of days of drinking ideally, but definitely beginning the first day of your detox. I’d recommend making a huge salad with as many vegetablaes as you can tolerate, along with lean chicken breasts. Make enough so that you have at least 3-4 meals to prevent having to repeat the process often. Its also a really good idea to juice if you have a juicer. This is going to really help with the withdrawal from the booze by replacing it with an abundance of nutrients, making withdrawal smoother and keeping you in a better mood. I would recommend a detox juice containing the following:


  • Garlic

  • Turmeric

  • Ginger

  • Beats

  • Carrots

  • Celery

  • Broccoli

  • Lemon
